I've been dying to draw Ahsoka's new look since I first saw it. I grabbed a ton of screen shots from her first episode while it was on starwars.com. Fortunately they also released a couple of official images of her new look.

She obviously looks older, and taller, than when she was first introduced. If she was supposed to be 14 she looks like she's 16 now. I really couldn't get any clear shots of her shoto lightsaber, but it looks like a mini version of her regular one, just without those little wings.

The biggest problem I had with this sketch was Ahsoka's legs, actually everything from the waist down. I tried to give her a firm ready stance, but it just wasn't turning out right. It wasn't until I shifted her hips counter to her shoulders that it seemed to click. But I'm probably have to redraw her bottom half again, I think I made her hips a little too wide, and her right arm a little too long.

And I definitely have to add a little something to her expression, it kinda has that "nothing-going-on-in-there" Kristen Stewart (seriously, why does she look stoned in every Twilight poster :omg: ) look ;p

****update January 13, 2011

Okay, so I couldn't go to bed without fixing this sketch. The changes actually turned out to be subtle. I lowered her left shoulder (it looked too shrugged). I did redraw her from the waist down, but it actually turned out all I had to do was lower belt on her hips and that seemed to work. For her expression I just made her look a little pissed (my "go to" expression ;p ) She is an older teenager, she probably has more attitude now.

**** 'nother update for January 13, 2011

Okay, I just couldn't concentrate on anything else until I at least finished the lines for this drawing. Besides, I can't even tell you how many requests for the lineart that was waiting for me, so that's as good an excuse as any ;p

****Update February 20, 2011

Added the base colors for Ahsoka. When I was watching The Clones Wars a couple of days ago I noticed that her "brows" grew some points downward in the middle. I'll have to correct the lineart soon.

I though that the padawan to knight transition was more of the ready-iness thing than being chosen. I could be wrong, though. XD this is one reason i love star wars so much, it's complexities. :D

I've also seen the picture of the updated Ahsoka Tano. Were my eyes deceiving me or were her horns a little taller and her bustline fuller? :)

It might be just the colors making it seem like it, because I didn't change the linework at all.

Lovely, Joseph. Can't wait for the lineart. :D

Also, I have a question. I downloaded your "Better Than Vader", "Always Two There Are", and Ahsoka Tano Alone" lineart and saw something strange. Whenever I uploaded them into my Paint Shop Pro or my Photoshop Elements, any color swatch I clicked on, with the exception of white, black, and grays, were themselves replaced with gray tones. I couldn't even access my PSP gradients. I also know this happened with the Jaina-vs. Jacen drawing. Is there anyway you can correct this? I really would like to colorize these outlines. :)

I run into that problem myself, since I scan everything in "grayscale" bitmap images. I'm not sure if there is a way to "colorize" grayscale images, but what I do is just copy the entire image, then open a new "canvas" (any new canvas should automatically be in color) the exact same size, or larger, and just paste the image onto it. You should be able to use the colors then and just save the new image as a paintshop file.
