Dark Tahiri - WIP by JosephB222 Dark Tahiri - WIP by JosephB222
This is my first new pic since getting over the flu and finishing "Revelation" (not counting commissions). And while Tahiri's character turn in that book was very sudden without explaination I hope they don't waste her Sith status in "Invincible". In "Revelation" they had the perfect opportunity for Tahiri and Jaina to duel and they blew it. Here's hoping Denning makes up for it.

It would be so cool if they had two duels going on at the same time. Tahiri fighting Ben while Jaina faces Jacen. It could actually work as Ben's trial to becoming a Jedi.

****edit

I fixed Tahiri's legs, but then decided to clean all the linework and once that was done it was fairly simple to fill in all the base colors. I also shortened her lightsaber since I do have a tendency to make really long saber blades ;P

Yeah, I was surprised as well that Tahiri did what she did.

Will you be doing a 'Always Two There Are' drawing of Tahiri and Caedus?

I hope you can finish this pronto, she looks so great. I haven't read much of the New Jedi Order books so I don't know what happened to her forehead. She was captured by the Yuuzhan Vong, but... You should make another version of with her Sith Master, Darth Caedus someday.

Man I hope she dies...via Mirta or something...I just don't like what they've done with her, it feels so rushed.

You made her look cook though!

Well, I think once Jaina finishes training with Fett the Mandalorian storyline will end there, that was a thing in the Traviss books which the other authors didn't even touch. If Tahiri does die I hope it's in a Jedi duel, preferably with Ben, since Jaina or Luke would definitely be too much for her.

yeah which is a bummer because she went into so much detail and storyline with the Mandos, and it will feel weird to have it just gone in the last book.

Ben facing off with Tahiri would be cool and probably is something they would do for the whole old apprentice/new apprentice thing.

Ah...following the discussions above, I have to agree: her turn, while understandable with the "setup" they were giving her in the previous couple of books, seems very forced and sudden; one day she's following Jacen like a puppy, begging for another moment in the past with Anakin--the next, she's his declared apprentice and assassin, casually blasting the leader of the Remnant's military force... Very forced, for me... All that aside, I like this piece: your skill in depicting the Sith comes through here, though it does pain me that it's Tahiri--who fought so long and hard to survive the Vong war... Sad... I like how you did her scars...

And let's not forget Jaina certainly didn't seem to hesitate doing a berserker rage on Tahiri. Sure Jacen is her brother but it took the chick about 7 books before she finally got it into her head that she would probably have to kill him, and while she isn't as close to Tahiri as she is Jacen (or Zek for that matter), this generation of Jedi did pretty much grow up and fight in a war together. She seemed just a bit to eager to kill Tahiri without a second thought about it. And this is just one of the little things (of which there are many) in "Legacy of the Force" that really annoys me. In "Invincible" I hope Luke or some of the other Jedi at least attempt to bring her back to the light side, and that it's not just something reserved for those with the last name Solo and Skywalker :O_o: and doesn't just become a throwaway henchthug. I mean redemption is something Jedi are supposed to do  .

And I still need to add a little contrast to her scars when I finish coloring this pic ;)

I truly hope your speculations prove correct--I always liked Tahiri's character, and really--after the NJO series--I believed she was coming to grips with her life and how to live it without Anakin. And I made a similar comment about Jaina in someone else's gallery: she seems to be edging dangerously close again, herself, with all this Mando-brawling she's learning--turning the aggression loose unhindered and all that... And from someone who purported to care about Tahiri like a sister...? Lots of inconsistencies, yet again...but that's nothing new, really; so many authors, and no one's following anyone else's outlines or notes... **shaking head** I suppose we'll see!

And this is a :+fav: just as it is, my friend! :+favlove:

Yeah, here's hoping Denning can bring the series to a close we'll all be satisfied with, or at least less unsatisfied, ;p .

And not to worry, when I'm done with this pic I'll just exchange this one with the finished product so it will still be in your fav's ;) .

Well, considering that for as many things I like about LotF there does seem to be a bit more that just annoy the hell out of me. It mostly has to do with the fact the books don't flow as well as they should when the authors change. Some characters drop off or disappear and don't reappear until you come back to that author and other times a character my say or think one thing and then in the next book that changes. Luke had to struggle with his decision whether or not to blow up Jacen's fighter when he had Allana with him and then in the very next book when he's the only one in the cockpit he just let's him go!?

Allston and Denning seem to go together well enough, but it's almost like you enter a different world when you get to a Traviss book. It feels like the authors rarely spoke to each other in terms of story structure and went off to do their own thing in their assigned chapters. The editor in charge of this series should have kept tighter reign to make sure the overall story cohesed (cohered? did I just invent a new word -- great is my power ;P ) and not be intimidated by each of these authors' clout of having so many bestsellers to their names (putting "Star Wars" on the cover pretty much garantees a bestseller no matter how crappy).

Tahiri's treatment is hardly the tip of the iceberge of things they haven't handled very well.

Yeah, her portrayal of the Mandalorians does kinda ruin the image they had in the Knights of the Old Republic games . . . had me thinking these can't be the same Mandalorians who tried to take over the galaxy 4 thousand years ago. I knew about her love affair with Boba Fett but I'm lucky I didn't find out about her real life hatred of Jedi until after I read "Revelation" otherwise I might not have been able to enjoy the book as much as I did. Almost makes me not want to read "Sacrifice" when the paperback comes out in a couple of weeks, but I hear it's no where near as biased as "Revelation". Besides, if it's anything like "Bloodlines" it should be a fast read (after the first couple of chapters I skipped all the Mandolorian stuff). The only reason I had to read most of the Mando chapters in "Revelation" was because Jaina was in most of them.

Yeah. Mando's in the KOTOR era were about the battle, honor and pride. Now they're more about bruised ego's. I hope they shape up soon.

They have terribly disappointed me with her of late. She had a lot more development done in the previous series, and now she's basically set up to fall. I'm really hoping that they're just keeping things in secret for the next book.

Now Tahiri I am hoping survives. Unlike Jacen or Vader, Tahiri has just that one murder on her hands, though that can technically be considered a part of warfare however distasteful it still is since he was in command of military forces at the time. Sure he was unarmed but then again only three books ago Luke executed an unarmed person. To quote Tenel Kal "the war has become very confusing."

Unlike Tahiri though, Luke realized later what he did was wrong. He will be paying for that the rest of his days, however long those will be. He knows it too. Tahiri...not sure if she's aware or not. Or what she has in mind. They have really let go all the character development that was done with her in the Vong books. Such a shame.

Jacen is hosed. Sooner or later. Thing is, he thinks he's so clever and right and destined to be a Sith... and he doesn't realize he's being used. He's but a pawn. A distraction for the Jedi Order as the New Sith Order continues to build up. He is the last gasp of the old Sith Order's way of doing things, and the unwitting pawn of the new. A perfect foil to distract Luke from picking up on the rise of Darth Krayt and the new Order.

Now there's a battle that would be awesome to see. Krayt vs Luke.

Now I haven't read "Sacrifice" yet (paperback comes out in a few weeks) but didn't Luke realized he was wrong after he found out Lumiya couldn't have killed Mara? And Tahiri did seem to be at least unsettled by what she did, and prehaps she delving more into the dark side so she doesn't have to face what she did.

I still think there's a good chance Jacen might survive, perhaps missing a couple of limbs. I'm not familiar with Darth Krayt. That from "Legacy"?

He did at that.

As for Tahiri delving into the darkside, her unfulfilled love with Anakin has put her on the path. She's slowly moving past that, but she's not going blindly. She's becoming a willing participant.

And yes, Krayt is from the Legacy comics. He's actually a Jedi from the Clone Wars.

Yeah, but the way Tahiri is going along willingly is not being portrayed very convincingly, but then again there are a lot of unconvincing reasons for some of the things that happened in this series, so I guess we just have to go along with it :hmm: .

"And yes, Krayt is from the Legacy comics. He's actually a Jedi from the Clone Wars."

Damn, he must be old then. Doesn't Legacy take place like a hundred something years in the future?

I really do want to start reading that comic as well as the "Knights of the Old Republic" comic. Unfortunately, it seems like they both used the same Skywalker-shaped cookie cutter for their lead chracters (Zayne and Cade), at least in the older "Republic" comic (which is collected in "Republic" and "Clone Wars" graphic novels) had storylines that gave the other (more colorful) Jedi the spotlight; Aayla, Quinlan, Mace, Shaak Ti, and Yoda.

You would be correct about Kryat. He put himself into stasis several times to prolong his life.

The comics are good, but I am disappointed they fell back on the same old same old. Empire takes over galaxy, Sith vs Jedi. I'd love to see a story where a Jedi and a Sith actually tried to find a way to put an end to the thousands of years old conflict between them. They've beaten each other silly more than once. It goes one way and then the other. Sith could care less what others think, but even they would probably like to have an end to being hunted, or hunting others. And you'd have the whole distrust and expectation of betrayal there from the Jedi towards Sith...it would be an amazingly complex story I think if done right.

Best result, the Sith and Jedi become one again. That'll likely never happen. Most likely, you have a Rule of Two for both Jedi and Sith. A Master and an Apprentice. They go their separate ways and just leave everyone else out of it. They come across each other, they turn and go the other way.

Pipe dream I know, but it's my dream. ;p

Anyway, if you get too tired to color any of the stuff you've put up, I'd gladly color one or two things, although I'd hate to screw up your lightsabers and other effects from Photoshop (because i don't have that.......>_<;). But if you want to see how I'd do it......

There really hasn't been much done with Tahiri, especially after Anakin died, but they could have put a little more build up to her going full blown Sith. They were actually building up to it in Inferno and Fury, but then they just had to jump to it in Revelation (that author not wanting to take time away from a Mandalorian storyline which has absolutely no impact in this series).

And it's not that I get to tired to color my pics, it's just that I can draw much faster than I can color an I'm very slow coloring. I do have several pics in my "lineart" folder that are ready to be colored, if you're interested, but if there are any pics that are not in that folder you want to try coloring, let me know and I can get you the lineart for it. And I don't have Phototshop either, I use Paint Shop Pro to color.

I wish I could say I just did all these pics, but most of these pics I did at least 2 weeks ago, while I was sick. These past few days I've been working on commissions. This Tahiri pic I did just last night. I still have several sketches I did while I was sick but it'll take some time to get them scanned in a cleaned up.

And I'm sure Jaina wouldn't have too much problem against Tahiri, but it still would have been cool to see (girlfights are cool ;) ). But she would be a challenge for Ben, certainly. Being twice his age, with twice the training and experience.
